Where to Get Donuts (and Other Breakfast Sweets) in Nashville & Brown County, Indiana

We’ve hosted a lot of groups at our Airbnb - the Brown County Barn Burner - in downtown Nashville, Indiana…which means I’ve answered the question “Where can we get donuts for breakfast?” A LOT of times!

So, whether you spell them donuts or doughnuts, I’m finally rounding up all the options in this post. Which hopefully means there will be a few more sprinkle-fueled smiles in Brown County in the near future :-)

Percy’s Perk

Percy’s Perk is a donut and coffee shop located in the back of Our Little World Studio on Van Buren Street. It’s a new addition to town as of October 2023, and it offers a fun twist on a traditional donut shop with their “Design Your Own Donuts” option. You choose from a variety of icing flavors and toppings and they’ll assemble your donut for you while you wait. While you’re there, you can also “make and take” a variety of crafts in the Our Little World Studio.

Nashville BP

Yes, I’m talking about the gas station, but hear me out!  They actually serve some (surprisingly?) good, made-to-order food that’s also really affordable.  This includes baked fresh daily donuts, a variety of breakfast sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, and more!  They also open earlier and serve you quicker than many of the dine-in restaurants in town, so it’s a great option if you need to grab something quickly to start your day.  You can call ahead a few days in advance to place larger orders, and they’ll have them ready for you to pick up whenever you need them.

Donut Central ‘Mobile Command’ Food Truck

Donut Central has a brick-and-mortar store in Columbus, but their food trucks move around each day to new locations in south-central Indiana.  They tend to come to Nashville once a week, and set-up in the IGA parking lot from 6:30-10:30am, or until they sell-out (which happens more often than not).  It seems like their ‘typical’ day to come to Nashville is Thursday but, it varies, so always check their Facebook page for an up-to-date schedule.

You can place a specific order online and in advance, to pick up from the food truck, or just take your chances with whatever they happen to have in stock when you get there - I’ve never had a flavor I didn’t like!  They have great classic and filled donuts, along with more inventive styles, and they even sell do’sants (a donut-croissant hybrid) with fun toppings.

Honorable Mention - Wildflour Bakehouse

Wildflour Bakehouse is technically located in Johnson County, but it’s so close to Brown County that I’ll give it a pass to be included on this list.  They have homemade doughnuts, pastries, and coffee, plus a full breakfast and lunch menu, and more! It’s a great option, especially if you’re in the northeast corner of the county and want something that’s easier to get to from your location than Nashville.

Donuts are great and all, but you might be thinking “What about other breakfast sweets?”

Where to Get Cinnamon Rolls in Nashville & Brown County, IN

In addition to donuts, you can find cinnamon rolls and other breakfast pastries at the Donut Central Mobile Command Food Truck, the Nashville BP, and Wildflour Bakehouse (see above for all that info), but if you’re looking for other options - and cinnamon rolls in particular - be sure to also check out:

Ooey Gooey Cinnamon Rolls & Cafe

Ooey Gooey Cinnamon Rolls & Cafe has an extremely devoted following and often sells out of their cinnamon rolls on the weekends.  My only issue with this restaurant is that I’m not someone who loves overly sweet things and, in my opinion, the cinnamon rolls here are just way too sweet for me (like a ‘hurts my teeth’ level of sweet).  However, as the name suggests, they have more to offer than just cinnamon rolls and, based on the lines every weekend this is definitely a restaurant worth checking out!

Heavenly Biscuit

Fresh baked cinnamon rolls are just one of the many things on the menu at the Heavenly Biscuit! This is more of a sit down restaurant than a ‘grab and go’ option, although they do offer carryout if you want it. Just know that there’s a sign as you walk in reminding you that “this isn’t fast food.” As long as you go with your patience in tow, you should be fine. The food is delicious and it’s definitely worth checking out, especially if you’re looking for a full breakfast menu in addition to cinnamon rolls.

Nashville General Store & Bakery

The Nashville General Store & Bakery was recently closed for a few months, but reopened in Fall 2023 under new ownership. They are still getting restocked and back up-and-running with regular hours and food offerings, but they usually have cinnamon rolls and other bakery items available.

Lee’s Bees

This home-based baker is located north on SR 135 towards Morgantown and routinely stocks their roadside farm stand with all sorts of baked goodies, including quick breads, bagels, and cinnamon rolls (and occasionally donuts!). Check out their Facebook page for updates on what’s available at the stand, or to message the owner and place your order.

Where to Get Fried Biscuits and Apple Butter in Nashville & Brown County, IN

While we’re on the topic of sweet, doughy treats, I have to quickly mention Brown County’s famous fried biscuits and apple butter! For whatever reason, this seems to be something you’ll see served most often with lunch and dinner, instead of breakfast, but there’s no wrong time of day to eat them in my opinion :-)

The fried biscuits themselves are pretty similar from place to place (although some restaurants serve them plain, while others let you choose if you want to have them tossed in cinnamon sugar). But there’s always a side of housemade apple butter, and this is where you’ll find the biggest difference in flavor between the different restaurants.

I don’t really think you can go wrong with any of these locations, but maybe some day I’ll conduct an official taste test to pick a personal favorite…  Until then, if you’re looking for fried biscuits and apple butter while you’re in Brown County, you should consider the time of day, group you’re with, the type of overall menu you’re interested in, and then pick one of the following. Once you’re there, you can get an order - or two - of fried biscuits and apple butter for the group to share!:
